あらすじ
犯人の目的は、現代版・魔女狩りだとにらむチャンドラー。第2の被害者の殺害現場で犯人の壊死した指が見つかり、被害者同士が顔見知りだと分かった。続けて第2の被害者とサークル仲間だった女性が遺体で見つかる。

Buchan believes the killer believes they are a modern witch-finder general and that the markings on both Dorothy's house and the scene of Alexander's murder are to warn off evil spirits though homeless Lee Bysack claims they are to show houses friendly to vagrants.
